PRODUCT EXAMPLE: TASTE-MASKED MEDICINE
We encapsulated Dextromethorphan HBr, which is a medicine with a very bitter taste, inside microbubbles. In contact with water the medicine remains encapsulated inside the microbubbles (see Figure below). When bile salt is added, as happens at the beginning of the small intestines, the medicine release very fast and almost completely.
The microbubble-encapsulates can be formulated as drink but also as a tablet. We produced tablets that melt in the mouth and that completely mask the taste of the medicine. Through the addition of a flavour, e.g. peppermint, the tablets become very pleasant to ingest. This technology will help you to administer medicine to children, pets, elderly …
